CellSonic shock head wand (or shockhead) for a CellSonic VIPP Machine. The item is also know as a CellSonic wand in the U.S. The shock heads deliver a very intense pressure pulse (VIPP). The pressure pulse is similar in nature to the sonic boom from an airplane going faster than the speed of sound. As you work with the shock head, you will hear a bang, 4 times a second. The shock head does not put energy into the body. As a result, it creates an intense pressure pulse with what is essentially a spark plug inside the shock head.

You must shake the CellSonic wand prior to use to make effective pulses. Gasses form in the shock head from the electricity made by the spark plug inside the shock head. Shaking the wand mixes everything back together and a more effective pulse/louder bang can be heard. So if you are doing a series of 4 treatments at one time, 300 pulses each (perhaps because you are working in several different locations), you would shake the CellSonic shock head wand at the start of each series of 300.

Each CellSonic shock head wand will deliver 50,000 pulses over its lifetime; the spark plug wears out. Keep new, unused CellSonic wands in the refrigerator; they keep fresh for 4 months. It is advised that the operator wear ear plugs or sound-blocking headphones. For treatments close to the face, you may offer the patient ear plugs or headphones.

Identify the area to be treated. You may wish to use a washable marker to mark the area which makes it easier to have an overview of all the areas needing treated. Cover the shockhead with cling film (such as Saran™ Wrap) for sanitary purposes, for instance. Check that no air bubbles are trapped under the film; pressure pulses do not go through bubbles of air. Pressure pulses travel only through liquid; use ultrasound or other gel liberally on areas to be treated.
